Alison’s background is unique among psychologists. She began her professional career as a musician, obtaining a Bachelor of Music in Oboe Performance at the University of Ottawa and performing with orchestras across Canada. During training for her second Ironman triathlon, she was struck by a vehicle while riding her bike, causing injuries that ended her music career. She transitioned to a career in corrections, spending seven years as a Correctional Peace Officer. These experiences helped her learn about reactions to trauma and instilled a passion for service, leading her to pursue psychology.
After completing her Master of Counselling degree at City University, Alison became a Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists. Since this time, she has completed additional training and certification programs aimed at understanding and treating trauma in first responder, military, and helping professions.
Alison has firsthand experience of the unique culture and dynamics faced by first responders. Her work in corrections and her specialized training in several types of trauma therapy make her well-equipped to work with the adverse and stressful situations experienced by people working on the frontline and to guide them toward personal growth and inner resilience.
